Our Favorite Author

Mo Willems

When Ballet girl started reading, we started with the Bob Books. When she improved, she herself discovered the Piggie and Elephant books. Fabulous for confidence building and fluency. Who does not like a bit of humor, a bit of comics in their day?

Then I skimmed over one website and saw a reference to Knuffle Bunny. The Cautionary tale was fabulous and the ending was unexpected; the book was tender and sweet. It's real pictures superimposed on cartoons, bringing the sense of reality into the story.
This simple story brought joy and laughter to my children's evening. Ballet girl was so thrilled with the end. I decided to get and read the other Knuffle Bunny books. This is how we arrived at the next book
which talks about letting go of something so dear to your heart such as your Knuffle Bunny, or your blanket, or in Ballet girl's case her Pink Bear. Of course, she cried because we forgot the pink bear at a friend's house; and of course she cried because she will never ever give him up, only possibly to her own children when she grows up:). The red blanket, which is almost falling apart and which has been repaired many times was found for 25 cents in a thrift store. The pink bear was free from a garage sale!!! So there we go, the most desired and beloved items are not the most extravagant, in fact, what is dearest to our hearts usually is very, very inexpensive.
