March Happenings

We are reading Patilantsi now, along with Hitar Peter. The kids have been picking up good books from school and we have been reading these as well. Below I will list the good finds from March.
We will read more books about plants in the second half of the month. The first half has been very relaxing, no subject oriented.

Make Way for duckling resembles The rumpet of the Swan but it is shorter and full of pictures and thus is accessible to many kids. I recommend it. Ballet girl will have a huge science activity at school coming up-they will be hatching ducklings in the next few months.

No Bath, No Cake is plain funny. The funniest pirate book I have read in a long time.

Charlie is a self absorbed dog. He is it. His stories, his thoughts are hilarious. He reminds me of a nicer version of my boss.
Grace is a great book. I was surprised how good it is. It introduces the concept of the Electoral College. It introduces the idea of democracy and the idea of running a campaign, of making promises and sticking to them, of being the better choice for a job despite preconceptions. A great book!

Funny! Clever! And dedicated to Nikolai. The author is a woman who has lived all over the world. I am actually going to look for more picture books by this author. The pictures are fantastic too!

We are also re-reading some past favorites-The Twits and Esio Trot, both by Roald Dahl. I am reading to myself, Danny Champion of the world.

Portuguese is going great thanks to Palavra Cantada-Rato e Galinha Pintadinha 4 Tumbacatumbata. We have started listening, understanding, answering questions. I read one sentence that summed up for me what I need to do. I have so many resources but the bottom line is that to become proficient at anything you need to use that anything. We are using Portuguese-an hour a night. We converse, we listen, we sing. We will be ready for our portuguese camp in June.
