Junior Year - Round 2
- English
- B is taking AP Language at AIM Academy The class is straight to the point without busy work
- Mathematics
- First Semester - we are finishing Calculus 3 using Calculus 10e by Larson (Ch 10-15)
- Second Semester - we are going to do Linear Algebra using Linear Algebra with Applications by Steven J. Leon
- Science
- B is taking AP Chemistry at PA Homeschoolers with Mr.Kernion. This class is exceptionally well paced and organized.
- Foreign Language
- B is taking French 4 at AIM Academy. This may be his last year of French. This class, unfortunately, is filled with lots of busy work. I'd say the work for it takes longer than some of the AP classes.
- B continues to study Portuguese. I have taken on a routine with light reading, light grammar, light listening exercises, and one live lesson with a tutor per week. B wants to go back to PG camp for next summer. This will be great because I would not need to worry about his last PG credit for this senior year.
- Social Studies
- B loves history. He is taking two classes and we hope to add one more for the second semester.
- For the entire year he is taking Comparative Governments via Revolutions at Moth Learning. This class is very well organized and teaches the material in a non traditional way. The teacher is engaging, the reading material is very interesting - a lot of historical accounts, some light, some not, some documentaries, etc.
- During the first semester, B is taking International Relations at WTTA. Since, B is interested in all things history, I figured he may explore a little bit of how history is incorporated in a complex subject like international relations. Back in the 90s people running away from communism were specializing in international relations. Some may have been, but did not learn much.
- During the second semester, we are hoping to be able to sign up for a class focused on Latin America's history.
- Clubs
- B plays chess with a group at AIM academy
- B builds computer/video games using Unity
- B talks history with two long time friends, one from MN and one from VA
- B and I walk daily and also try to bike. We got new bikes recently.
- Volunteering
- B and I volunteer several times per month at a CERT organization near our town. The events are usually about supporting the community during outdoor community events such as movies in the park, concerts, smashing pumpkins, Christmas, etc.
- Other
- We plan to spend some time in the south exploring historical sights.
- We try to attend at least one cultural event every month. In September we saw Into the Woods at a local school, and we saw a concert at South Bend, IN. We also dropped off S at her college.
- In October, we are going foliage hunting a bit north. We may, if lucky, visit some colleges.
- We don't have things lined up for the rest of the months but we never fall short. Where we live there are cultural and sports things to do year round.
